CPA, S.V.P. Finance & Operations, Chief Financial Officer
Mr. Jimmie Spears serves as chief financial officer for the Video Advertising Bureau (VAB). He also holds the additional title of vice president finance and operations. Spears is responsible for all financial reporting, accounting, treasury investment, auditing and strategic analysis of the organization's cash flow. Additionally, he oversees a staff that manages the information systems, risk management, contract and lease agreements, and personnel for the VAB. He is also responsible for the administration of the company's health, life and retirement programs.
Prior to VAB, Spears was senior manager in the not-for-profit organizations group at the audit firm of Marks, Paneth, & Shron LLP in New York. While there, he planned and supervised audit engagements of tax-exempt organizations, regularly overseeing pension plan and Federal A-133 audits. His clients included well-known foundations, associations and health care clinics such as the Center for Preventative Psychiatry, Cardiovascular Research Institute and the Osborne Association.
Spears background includes time as manager, healthcare & public sector assurance services for global financial services firm KPMG LLP in both New York & Boston. With KPMG, he planned and supervised audit engagements within the healthcare and public sector industries. He was also a member of KPMG's National Corporate Compliance Team. In this role, he developed compliance programs for healthcare entities, which consisted of implementing code of conduct policies, conflict of interest policy statements, Medicare and Medicaid billing issues, physician regulations and other privacy compliance matters. He also served in an advisory role providing recommendations on improvements to accounting procedures affecting financial control and overall organizational performance. Spears worked on a variety of hospital, foundation and educational institution accounts including NYU Medical Center, the Carnegie Corporation of New York and International House.
His expertise in the not-for-profit and public sector arena also includes stints as director, fiscal services for Middlesex Hospital in Waltham, Massachusetts, head of reimbursement at both The Children's Hospital and Boston City Hospital in Boston, MA and chief financial officer for Huntington General Hospital also in Boston. Spears managed his own practice for several years in Lynnfield, MA working as a financial and accounting consultant for various public entities. He began his career with Coopers & Lybrand as a staff accountant and also spent time with Touche Ross as an audit manager.
Spears earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Villanova University. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) and the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants. He holds CPA licenses in both New York and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Spears is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps earning his honorable discharge with the rank of Corporal. Jimmie, his wife and daughter make their home in Fairfield County, Connecticut.
